Web Ads via BuySellAds.com

April 11, 2008

A quick announcement today, we’re switching our advertising over to a new system via the recently launched BuySellAds.com. Previously I’d been running a little ad network between four of our sites - FlashDen, FreelanceSwitch, FaveUp and PSDTUTS - but now thanks to this new service, it’s all fully automated. BuySellAds is still in Beta but is a very promising service and I know Todd who’s running the site and he’s a great guy. So if you’ve ever wanted to purchase an advert here, you can now do so via our Ad Sales page on BuySell. The price of an advert … $1500 p/month -) I figure since the site is mostly about the Plus membership now, I’d only a few, but really expensive ad spots and if they sell, then that’s great. And if not, then no real harm done. In any case we have lotsa traffic here, so even at that rate it’s only a $0.50 CPM rate which is pretty darn low! Also of course you can buy ads on FreelanceSwitch for $750, and on FaveUp for $300. Read more

Exploring Shopzilla [Interview]

April 10, 2008

In February I posted a first impression review of the Shopzilla Publisher Program. Shopzilla This CPC (cost per click) ad unit is similar to those used successfully by many with the Chitika program. There’s one live in action at the bottom of this post. I’ve been getting some good feedback from quite a few ProBlogger readers who have tried the program and am consistently getting good results with them so I approached Shopzilla’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Business Development, David Weinrot, for an interview about the program. He kindly agreed. Here’s our chat about Shopzilla. Read more

Website Traffic Series Part 3: Leave Comments on Other Blogs

April 10, 2008

On the first part of this series we talked about how you can generate traffic to your website by getting it featured on Web Design and CSS galleries. On the second part we talked about Blog Carnivals. Today we will cover another basic yet effective strategy: leaving comments on other blogs. leavecomments.png The concept: Blogs are conversations. Most of them, in fact, allow any user to post a comment at the end of every article. Usually you just need to write down your name and email (kept private) and publish your comment. Most blogging platforms also allow you to insert your website URL, which will then be used to hyperlink your name to your website. Read more

Engadget Has Been Redesigned

April 10, 2008

It is always interesting to see the redesign of famous blogs, and this time it is Engadget’s turn. The old design was really cramped and narrow, so it was about time. engadgetredesign.png The new design is more minimalistic, with a simple header featuring navigation links, a big column for the content, and a sidebar with ads and links to featured articles. I like minimalistic concepts, but the opinions regarding this new design are divide. If you check the comments (over 130 of them) you will see that many people did not like it. Some were even calling April Fools…. Read more

The Best Sources of Content for WordPress Users

April 9, 2008

wordpress.png WordPress is the most popular blogging platform, and I know many Daily Blog Tips readers use WordPress to power their own blogs. As a WordPress user, I enjoy reading about the platform and staying up-to-date with news from the WordPress community. The great thing about WordPress is the endless possibilities that it allows, and by reading from other users and designers there is plenty of information available on just about any topic you can think of. If you’re looking for technical documentation or support, the codex and forums are usually the first place to look. However, I would like to share some blogs and websites that provide a good amount of WP-related content that I think you will appreciate. Whether you are a theme designer/developer or a blogger who is looking to get more out of WordPress, visit some of these sites and see for yourself. From 10000 to 0 Emails in an Inbox in 24 Hours

April 9, 2008

Over the weekend I decided to get serious about my email situation. I’d been sitting on an inbox with close to 10,000 items in it for months and was feeling more and more stressed by the day. I posted on Twitter that I needed to do something about it and then decided to take action. Within 24 hours I had an inbox with no items in it (well momentarily) and have been able to maintain that ever since (OK, so it’s only three days, but it’s been a very busy three days). A number of people asked me to give an update on what I did - here’s a very quick summary (by the way - thanks to the many Twitter followers who offered advice):

I moved all my email activity to Gmail
