Instead of riding snow, this boarder is flying through flames. In this tutorial we’ll create fire and smoke without using any photos. You’ll learn how to combine both to create a flaming, dynamic image that jumps right at you.
The Photo
First we need an image to work with. I chose an image of a snowboarder jumping from
Stock.xchang, it’s great because he’s quite isolated against a straight blue background which will make cutting him out much easier.

AIGA's 'Are You a Virgin?' design competition site has been reviewed by Typesites. Euphemisms abound.
In this tutorial I will show you how to repair some image noise from a low quality shot and I will show you an extremely quick and easy way to smooth out a person’s face. The woman in this shot is not a model and she has a lot of character so we don’t want to over do it with the smoothing. We will make it look real and natural.
The Image
You can get the image we’re using in this tutorial from Free Range Stock
here. The technique can be applied to a beauty shot as well, you would just have to adjust the settings on some of the steps to get a more extreme smoothing effect.

Consistently achieving a state of focused concentration can be difficult. There are some simple techniques you can employ that will have you rapidly entering this blissful creative and productive zone. Learn the benefits of
Flow and how to get into that hyper productive groove.
Rapidly Attaining Creative Flow - Quick Overview
- Create your optimal environment for working on your creative projects. For me it’s my office, mine is like a cave, or a big closet. It’s as removed as possible. Situated in a far corner of my house. That way external distractions are minimized and I’m able to focus.
- Each day prioritize your tasks. Arrange them so that you have time to focus on the creative part of a project. Schedule this time of day during your peak performance hours. For me that’s in the morning. Fully commit to this time. Turn off your email, your phone, and your feeds. Don’t allow anything to break your concentration. Lock the door if you have to and turn on some music.
- Start creating. Fully enjoy this creative time and be in the moment. Allow yourself to ignore your internal needs. Let time and worries drift away from your conscious. Focus deeper and become completely absorbed in your work.
- Continue to push and challenge yourself in your work. If a problem presents itself that is to complex. Quickly break it down into manageable parts and keep working, keep flowing, and keep creating.
Kaboomb! A bomb just went off or you finished your work. Otherwise, nothing is pulling you out of this zone!

One of the coolest digital artists around is Chuck Anderson, a.k.a.
NoPattern. After seeing a recent PSDTUTS reader request, I decided to show you how to create a light effect similar to NoPattern’s Jumper Poster. At the end I’ll show you how a technique like this can be used in a variety of different ways to make stunning images…
Step 1
Create a new document sized to 600px x 800px. Unlock the background layer and fill it with a dark blue color
(#091417).

If you are looking for photo’s for your blog to bring your stories to life and want to ensure that you have the rights to use them, you might be interested in exploring the new free service offered by
PicApp.You can register for an account and then search their data base. The photos are displayed in a flash media file and can be embedded on any web page, just like you do with video’s for example from
YouTube.
According to a
report at Gigaom, PicApp has advertising embedded in the photos and has a revenue share with the photos agencies.
It’s not going to be relevant for some of us who take the approach that we don’t have advertising on our business blogs and I know there are many people who prefer not to have flash on their websites or blogs.
However if you are looking for photographs that you can use on your blog if covering a news event it is a site worth exploring.

It’s time for another version of link love here on
Easy WordPress. Since the last post about
blogger comment recognition was received with so much gratitude I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do it again. Consider it a little Easter bunny present.
Commenter’s are every blogs life and blood and without them we would simply dry up. One of our most active commenter’s here is
Life is Colourful. Unfortunately I have no idea on whether
LiC is a he or a she so I will have to revert to address the person as
LiC.
LiC blogs about Life, Technology, Reviews, SEO, the Internet and making 2 cents per minute. I love this, since most people brag about how they make $100/minute. At least
LiC doesn’t throw around big income statements to mislead people. But when you read the post
February 2008 Proved to Be One Significant Month of Earnings you will soon find out that LiC actually earns a lot more than 2 cents/minute.
If you
head over to the LiC blog, there is some sound information to be found and an active commenting community.

Creating conceptual work can be fun and relies heavily on your imagination. In this tutorial I’ll show you how to combine stock photographs to create a stunning effect that can be easily reproduced to work with almost any combination of images.
What we’re going to be creating
The outcome to this tutorial depends heavily on what you want to create and whats going on in your head. I collected two stock images that I thought would work together before I begun from
sxc.hu. Here are the links to the stock images i used:
Landscape,
Cityscape. You can use the same stock images I have but I would also recommend you to experiment as that’s half the fun!
