If you are anything like me, then you appreciate the simple-ness of clean cut WordPress themes. I find them just so much easier on the eye as there is nothing that will distract from the content.
In the last year or so I’ve seen an increasing amount of blogs surface who prefer to use simple themes like
The Journalist. The Journalist WordPress theme is similar to the stylish
Whitepaper. It is simple and clean.
While some bloggers do prefer to use paid WordPress themes (myself included) for branding purposes, many of these free themes are great and even though I use a paid theme on my major blogs, I also use free themes on my other blogs.
The more I think about it, those clean, predominantly white spaced themes lend themselves really well to blogging about
simple things. Zen style blogs are all the rage as of late and everywhere they surface they seem to attract a huge amount of followers. After all, blogging about the simplistic aspect of life does help us to slow down and smell the roses.

The new
Just Lucid WordPress Theme is neat and clean for blogger who enjoy whitish themes. This one has also a nice and nifty looking footer that looks very attractive as it stands out from most other footer designs.
Just Lucid was designed by
DemusDesign and includes some smart navigation.
Here is what they say on their site:
Main menu expands automatically - The image to the right of the main menu automatically expands to the size of the menu. So you can see what I mean, I’ve included a demo of different header sizes. For the image I have included, it works best to have it centered vertically, if you change the picture you may want to find “.menu” in the css and change the background value to read “no-repeat bottom right” or “no-repeat top right.”

Blogs are a great way to make money online. However, sometimes the money is made not from direct methods like
Google Adsense or
affiliate marketing.
Sometimes, all you need a blog for is to grow your personal brand as a guru or an expert and the money comes in many, many other ways.
I’m releasing the theme I use for my
work-at-home blog as
The Guru Theme so you can use it on your blog too. I basically created space for a bigger blog header, which is necessary if you want to band yourself well.
This simple theme is perfect if:

@mattpacker asks - how important is the design of your blog and how hard a decision do you think it would be to develop a new theme for it?
There will probably be a little debate over this one in the comments on this post because every time I see someone write about design there are two opposing arguments.
On the one side are some blogger who argue that design is secondary and not that important as that it’s content that is what draws people to a blog and keeps them there. This camp often argues that with a lot of people reading blogs these days through RSS that design is less important as people rarely see it.
On the flip side we have the argument that design is very important because it creates a first impression in the mind of potential readers and that it’s around this first impression that many readers base their decision about whether they will subscribe.

A getting started guide on typography
So the other day I was talking with my designer about a logo, and he recommended me to go to
dafont.com, choose one font, and report back to him. Believe it or not I had never came across this site before.

It is nothing less than the fonts paradise. They have over 7,000 fonts available for download, most in PC and MAC versions. You can search for fonts based on style (e.g., fancy, techno, gothic, basic) or even browse among the
Top 100 fonts on their database.
Overall it is a very useful website for anyway that needs to write on computers (which translates to all of us, I guess).

Background images are one of the visual elements that when designed properly, can create an amazing atmosphere and convey the style the designer has chosen for the website.
