SEO for WordPress and Calculating Your Blog Value

June 12, 2008

Two interesting things that caught my attention around the blogosphere lately. The first one is a really extensive SEO guide for WordPress by Joost de Valk. Joost is a professional SEO, although you might also know him for the many WP plugins that he coded already. Anyway on this guide he cover several steps to make sure that your WordPress is getting as much search traffic as it should. Here are the sub-topics:
  • Basic Technical Optimization
  • Template Optimization
  • Advanced Technical Optimization
  • Altering your blog’s structure for high rankings
  • Conversion optimization
  • Comment optimization
  • Off site blog SEO
The second one is a site called MyBlogValue, that created an interesting quiz with 19 questions to let you discover the value of your blog. After answering the questions here is what I got: 1,809,030 Read more

If you always wanted to know what those professional keyword research tools have to to offer, now is the time. Do I think that everyone should be doing keyword research? Absolutely. Here is an example of why it is useful. Suppose your blog is about golf (the sport). After a while you will be looking for ideas to write about. What if you could start that brainstorming process by actually taking a look at what people are searching for inside your niche? With a keyword research tool, you would get a pretty long list of highly search keywords for whatever topic or niche you want. Below you will find an example when I researched for “golf.” wordtracker keyword research Now there are also good and free keyword research tools out there that would give you this information, so you need to evaluate by yourself if you need a professional solution or not. Google AdSense: Coming To A Feedburner Feed Near Your Soon

May 31, 2008

Finally Google will start rolling AdSense into Feedburner feeds. I guess the integration process was not that easy, given the time it took them after the acquisition. Regardless, this is good news for all webmasters and bloggers alike. Here is what they said on their blog:
We’ve been hinting at this for awhile, but it’s finally time to spill the beans: Starting next week, we’ll be rolling out AdSense for feeds to a small group of publishers, in anticipation of a full launch to all FeedBurner and AdSense publishers “coming soon”. If you start seeing “Ads by Google” on an ad in a feed somewhere, that’d be us.
Publishers that are already part of the FAN (Feedburner Advertising Network) will keep serving CPM ads, while having AdSense ads to fill the remaining inventory. Definitely another source of income to be considered by most bloggers out there. What do you think? Read more

Make Money Easily With Our Affiliate Widget

May 25, 2008

widget One of the best things I’ve done for our affiliates this year is to create the EasyWordpress Affiliate Widget. This widget allows total auto-pilot affiliate promotion for our products, and soon, selected products by other Clickbank merchants. You can use this widget on any WordPress blogs that has the widgets function. I think most people would either be using WordPress 2.3x or WordPress 2.5x and it should work like a charm on these systems. If you’re using a much older version of WordPress, isn’t it time you upgraded anyway? widgetAll you need to so is install the widget in your plugins folder, then activate it. Next, go to your widgets function and you’ll see a new widget titled “Affiliate Widget”. Just select this widget and place it in the sidebar you want to use it on. Then, enter your Clickbank ID and give the widget a title. Read more

WP TagAds Plugin

May 21, 2008

WP TagAds is a brand new Plugin lets you display eBay ads in a manner that is stylish and non obtrusive on your WordPress blog. Ads that will display through your Plugin are “pulled” based on the post tags within your individual posts. If eBay doesn’t serve ads you like, all you need to do is change your post tags some and that’s it. The ads will be displayed on your blog via a neat sidebar widget which allows you to place the ad wherever you like on your blog. Obviously you will need to have widgets enabled on the blog (meaning you have to use them). But before you rush to get the WP TagAds Plugin you will need an eBay Campaign ID as an affiliate. You can do this by joining the eBay Partner Network for free. Read more

Who Wants to Learn How to Make Web Videos That Sell?

April 30, 2008

Webvideo-UniversityI’m starting a new course this week (as a student) - it’s called WebVideo University. Over the past 6 or so so months I’ve been experimenting more and more with using Video on my blog. It started out with just an experiment or two but the response from readers was so encouraging that I set myself the goal of running weekly (or as it turned out every second week) video posts. Like I say - the response has been wonderful - there have been numerous benefits: Read more

How Much Traffic Should a Blog Have Before Running Advertising

April 27, 2008

Speed-Postingiamluc asks “How much traffic should you have to offer advertisements on your blog?” “When should you put advertising on your blog?” Funnily enough I’ve been asked this question four times in the last 24 hours so it’s probably a good time to answer it. Before I answer the question though - let me say that there are numerous approaches to this question and if you ask a variety of ‘pros’ you’ll get a similar variety of responses. Here’s how I do it: Read more

How Do I Make Money Fast Blogging?

April 26, 2008

Speed-Posting@eMarv asked - “how can one make 25K in 2 months by blogging? :) I know, I know… “ I think you know the answer to that question from your last few words. But when it comes to blogging it’s not a get rich quick thing. I don’t know too many (any) bloggers who made $25k in their first two months. Having said that - I did meet a blogger this week who started a blog and 2-3 weeks later sold it for $3k - so I guess there are some ways to build them quick and sell them off (but this is probably an exception rather than the rule). My philosophy of building money through blogging is that the secret is in trending up over the long haul. If you’re after fast money head to the casino - but don’t hold your breath there either! AdSense Roll out Ad Review Center to All Publishers

April 24, 2008

AdSense have today rolled out their new(ish) Ad Review Center for all AdSense publishers. I’m happy about this as I was in this last batch of publishers to see it. The idea behind the Ad Review Center is that when advertisers target your specific blog you now can see that they’re targeting it and can approve or ban and ad depending on whether you want it to appear on your site or not. This gives you more control over the ads that appear on your site. Note - this is only for ads targeted to your site (ie general AdSense ads that are contextually placed on your site are not included). Also keep in mind that when you remove an ad you could be decreasing the profitability of your site as it removes the ad from the ‘auction’ that happens between Advertisers to have their ad appear on your blog.
