Have AdSense Sliding/Scrolling Text Ads Changed Your eCPM?

April 9, 2008

Just under a week ago AdSense rolled out their new Sliding/Scrolling feature on Text Ads. The response from ProBlogger readers was mixed to say the least and included: “They’re interesting. I like that the arrows are pretty small, yet visible to those who are paying attention to the ads.” Stephanie “What a waste - do they really think that people looking at Adsense will take the time find a couple of tiny arrows to look at more ads?” - Blogthority “I’m not a big fan of bells and whistles, so it annoys me a little bit to see more moving parts on a website. On the other hand, if it offers more-relevant ads and gets more clicking for the bloggers, then I’m all for it!” - Jeff Read more

Unlocking The Secrets Of The Million Dollar Entrepreneur Mindset

April 8, 2008

Yesterday on our Biz Growth Live call we were joined by Sheri McConnell and the subject we covered was how to create a million dollar business.  Sheri has been researching the secrets of the million dollar mindset and coaching here clients based on the strategies she learnt from her million dollar friends. The other thing to note from Sheri’s experience is that she is managing to run four businesses from her home office along side enjoying a business family life with her husband and four young children. As you may be aware, the audio recordings for our calls are usually only made available to our clients and mastermind group members, however there were some things that Sheri covered on the call that I thought would be of benefit for the whole Biz Growth community to access, so I am posting a copy of the recording here. Sheri does cover the importance of our mindset through this interview - so you will find it a little different from our usual action focused calls at Biz Growth Live. She also shares alot of her personal experiences about what it takes to grow a billion dollar business. Read more

How Many Topics Should a Blog Cover?

April 4, 2008

Suzie has a post up on her blog which asks a question that many bloggers ask - often when they’ve started a personal blog and want to take their blogging to a new level, particularly in their quest to make money blogging. The question revolves around how many topics their blog should cover and whether they should have a ‘niche focus’. Susie writes:
“I also hear focus your blog on one topic. That has been my stumbling block. I want this blog to focus on the Law of Attraction in Action, AND I want to write about lots of other things that I am passionate about, including cooking, blogging, making money online, my art, people and causes, to mention a few.”

Who Cares How Many Subscribers You’ve Got?

April 3, 2008

Image-Thumb13The following guest post on measuring a blog’s success has been submitted by Mark Seall. A guide to systematically troubleshooting your blog’s performance by focusing on the measures that make a difference. Apparently it’s really easy to get zillions of subscribers to your blog - Just follow a few simple steps, work hard and write good stuff. I know this, because I read it every week on various pro-blogging sites which are keen to dispense the wisdom of their own success whilst making you feel inferior for having less than 20,000 RSS subscribers. Unfortunately for many of us, the promise of multiple thousands of subscribers is unrealistic no matter how hard we try - sometimes because we work in less popular niches, sometimes because we just don’t have the available time, and sometimes because we just don’t have that magic mix of talent and luck. How to Make Money Because of Your Blog - Book Deals

April 3, 2008

The New York Times has an article this week revealing that the advance of the book deal announced on the blog Stuff White People Like last week is worth $300,000. We’ve seen a number of bloggers sign book deals over the last year but this kind of money is beyond what I’ve seen before. Book deals are a perfect example of bloggers making money because of their blog (indirectly). Other bloggers who’ve released books based upon their blogs include (from among many): Read more

AdSense officially Launch Sliding/Scrolling Text Ads

April 3, 2008

After what seems like a very long test period AdSense today have announced that they’ve added scrolling ads to all CPC text ads. They announce it on their blog here. We started seeing them back in December. These ads have been appearing increasingly on many publishers AdSense units of late and are little arrows at the base of ad units which allow viewers of the ad to hit forward and back to see more ads. Here’s how they look. adsense-slider-ads.png As publishers you don’t get paid when readers click the arrows or scroll through ads but I guess the theory is that they’ll be more likely to click an ad if they see one that is more relevant to them. How Much Should I Charge for my Advertising Space?

March 26, 2008

In this post Daniel Scocco answers to another question on the Problogger Question Box (and a question that I get asked a lot). Brian Auer asks:
What about [direct advertising] pricing? Are there any good ballpark price structures? What do we base rates on?
As soon as a blogger decides to play with direct advertising, the question of “how much to charge” emerges. If you charge too much, you might end up with no advertisers at all. If you charge too little, on the other hand, you will be leaving money on the table. Unfortunately, as Brian wonders, there are no standard pricing structures across the Internet. You will need to take a look around, do some research, and experiment on your own site to find the rates that will maximize your revenues. Read more
